May 201124At this very moment, as I'm writing these very words, I must express the extremely serene condition I am in. Many months ago I downloaded a free application for Macs (and possibly PCs) called OmmWriter. And since picking up writing again as a form of release and not of stress, I just remembered how truly blissful this application is. The simplicity is key: OmmWriter is a word processor that eliminates all distractions besides you, your mind, and your writing. The program goes full screen and eliminates the temptation of checking your Facebook 12 times in two minutes or browsing shoes online that you can't afford but OMG IF ONLY I HAD 350 DOLLARS! There are serene backgrounds and white noise sound effects. My favorite is the choice of noises your keyboard makes as you type. Some remind me of raindrops of bamboo or something. I don't know how to explain it, but you have to try it. Have to. Do it now. Because I am a champion procrastinator and a masterful Internet scavenger, and such a simple way of blocking out distractions works wonders on me. God, I'm like in one of those giant gardens, raking sand in little sidewinder wiggles.

MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM

Today it rained. Today I got mud in my sandals and should have worn pants and probably could have had a far, far worse day for how bad of a day the world seemed to be having around me. Maybe when people get depressed about weather or not seeing the sun it's because they're just feeling empathetic because the earth itself having a terrible day. It's a man gaining sympathy weight with his pregnant wife or a chain of sneezes. We're all tied together and when the world is weeping down on you, it's not farfetched to want to weep with it. But the smell and the green and the little sparrows flopping in puddles, oooooooo I have missed it. And it is not making me depressed.

More volcanoes are erupting in Iceland and it's not too difficult to see how some people think the end of the world is coming. I mean, Justin Beiber just released his own perfume line and Andy Dick will probably make more money in a few years than I'll make in a lifetime so... I'm starting to feel the Armageddon pains. But maybe I'll be lucky enough to have Ben Affleck parade animal crackers over my stomach before the world ends and my dad dies to save the world. Even though Armageddon Ben Affleck is probably not who I'd want playing with my food in the final hours. It would probably be someone much ganglier, and he wouldn't have made Gigli. And Donald Sutherland would whisper comforting, encouraging things like, "It's going to be fine" and "It'll all be over so fast you won't even feel it," and "See you in a minute, kiddo." D. Sutherland has my favorite voice. I wanna jar it and save it in the basement with the Spam and bottled water and just in case it's going to end ugly, when I'm Will Smithing it I Am Legend style and I just had to chokehold my dog and I'm dropkicking the vampiric fragments of humanity, at least I'll have the ghostly whisper of Donald Sutherland to cast me off into the great unknown.

"Goodnight Carolyn. Unsweetened Dreams." Just like his voiceovers for Simply Orange commercials.

Doodle Carolyn MichaelsMy doodle today is out of laziness, mostly because I came home and watched a little movie with Sus and then did some research for work, so drawing is being shoved out by sleepiness. Gotta look after number one, you know? You know, I can tell. So, a few months back I made a growth chart for a homeopathic drug company that will eventually be sent off to a bunch of elementary school nurse's offices. I did the entire thing in collage and it turned out quite adorable. This snippet is of their trademark bear, Stanley, being the Red Bearon, flying his bearplane, asking a question familiar both to children and stoners: How high will you grow?

Song of the Day Carolyn MichaelsHere's a band I recently discovered, kind of by whim, that I just fell in love with immediately. The main singer has one of those super deep, electronically deeper voices that are both soothing and ominous at the same time. And then it busts into a little more of an island beat and just floats off onto a Hawaiian beach or something. Needless to say, it made my hit list at work quite a few times. A good tune for the end of spring, where we're upbeat but the weather is keeping everything a little... dark.
